Project Description
Mrs Michelle Muscat, Chairperson of the Marigold Foundation, launched the National Alliance for Rare Diseases Support – Malta on Wednesday, 17 February 2015. Present for the launch of the Alliance was Mr Sean Hepburn Ferrer, the eldest son of the late, beloved Audrey Hepburn, actress and dedicated philanthropist, and Mel Ferrer, actor, film director and producer. Mr Hepburn Ferrer, who is EURORDIS (The European Rare Disease Organisation) Rare Disease Ambassador, accepted the Marigold Foundation’s invitation to come to Malta for this very special occasion.
The National Alliance for Rare Diseases Support – Malta was set up to represent a higher number of patients speaking with one voice; thus, providing a stronger voice than a single disease patient group.
The aims of the Alliance are to provide support and information to patients and relatives going through a crisis related to rare diseases and to other organisations working in the field of rare diseases. It will also help in raising public and political awareness on rare diseases and conditions and to educate society in respecting, accepting and helping as much as possible patients of rare diseases and their relatives.
