Michelle Muscat, Founder and President of The National Alliance for Rare Diseases – Malta accompanied Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Health, Chris Fearne at a press conference to announce that Mater Dei Hospital has joined the European Reference Networks (ERNs) group of rare disease hospitals.
Maltese patients suffering from rare diseases will soon have access to treatment at 500 of the best specialised hospitals in Europe. This will mean that – subject to the normal process involving technical committees which determine who can benefit from treatment at the hospitals – patients will be eligible for care at one of the centres, depending on the type of disease.
